A little about me
I was a theater kid growing up and spent many hours impersonating Julie Andrews. In college, I transitioned from musical theater to opera. I graduated from North Central College with two music degrees in vocal performance and music composition. I have performed in multiple operas and musicals. My most recent roles include Young Heidi (Follies), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). As a musician, I have experience in contemporary music, musical theater, classical, and jazz.
My EP, Stay Warm, will be released soon. Stay Warm is a collection of my favorite songs written over the course of three years. Each song reflects where I was at a specific time in my life. It was hard to find a unifying theme for the EP, since each song is distinctly different. I realized that not every piece of work needs to be cohesive, and there's a sense of excitement and beauty in unpredictability. I enjoy that each song could be a standalone piece, it's a reflection of my personal experiences with life and my versatility as a musician.
Stay Warm draws from many influences. Some of my songs, like The Sun Sets at Eight, incorporate unique jazz elements. I love jazz, it creates this sense of mystery and ambiguity. On the opposite end of the spectrum my song Rituals follows a classic format. I took inspiration from Mozart. It starts out with a steady alberti bass and transitions to 6/8, like the aria Batti Batti. I’m also inspired by artists like Kate Bush and David Bowie, they have such a profound sense of storytelling. My songs Manic Pixie Dream Girl and Space Cadet each tell a story.
I teach voice, piano, and songwriting. I love teaching. Each private lesson gives me the chance to understand my students and tailor each lesson for growth while incorporating the personal goals of the student. I believe in progress, not perfection. I use the Faber books for my piano students, which breaks down music theory and piano technique in a way that is very accessible for new piano students. For my voice students, I prioritize vocal health and proper technique. Healthy singing and an open mind are the cornerstones for all of my voice lessons.
